Research freshness and review dates: when an evidence page goes stale
A practical standard for search cutoffs, editorial review dates, regulatory checks, corrections, retractions, and rapidly changing evidence.

An evidence page is only as current as its last reproducible search and editorial review. A visible review date should mean that literature, trial registries, regulatory sources, corrections, and material product claims were checked to that date. It does not guarantee that no later evidence exists.

Define what the review date covers
A meaningful date represents an actual check of the search strategy, anchor sources, trial status, posted results, regulatory pages, corrections, and retractions. Merely changing the date in a template is not editorial review.
The page should also disclose the search cutoff when it differs from publication. Readers need to know where the evidence window ends.
Review by risk and change velocity
Topics with active late-stage trials, new safety signals, regulatory action, or rapidly changing product claims deserve frequent checks. Stable historical mechanisms can use a longer cycle.
A page can remain factually accurate yet become incomplete when an important new negative study appears. Freshness is about coverage, not only error correction.
Make updates auditable
Record what changed, why the conclusion changed or stayed the same, which sources were added, and who performed the review. Preserve material corrections rather than rewriting history without notice.
